Korea's virtual technology is making remarkable strides in the entertainment industry. The trend of virtual celebrities and influencers has ushered in a fresh digital media experience, garnering attention for its fusion of virtual reality with the real world. Alongside this progress, there have also been discussions about the extent to which the general public is willing to embrace technological limitations and cultural adaptations.

Nevertheless, pushing aside concerns, progress has been achieved in various aspects like technology, content development, and marketing strategies, allowing active involvement across diverse aspects.

The 5-member virtual boy band, PLAVE, is also creating a buzz among the Z generation. They dropped their first mini-album titled 'ASTERUM: The Shape of Things to Come' on August 24th, 2023, and as of the 27th, the album has already sold over 180,000 copies in its initial release.

This is an impressive number, especially when compared to the initial record of 27,000 copies for their single 'ASTERUM', released back in March.

PLAVE is engaging in activities reminiscent of real K-pop idols, creating YouTube live streams, cover dances, vlogs, and more. Notably, their video call event on the 22nd had fans participating from 35 countries, spanning Asia, the United States, and Europe, underscoring the global appeal they're garnering, both domestically and internationally.

Across diverse entertainment realms such as movies, games, and music, virtual celebrities are delivering a range of content.  Looking ahead, with advancements in advanced motion capture, augmented reality, virtual reality, and technology in general, the interaction between virtual celebrities and their fans is expected to become even more dynamic and vibrant.

An industry insider stated, "Virtual celebrities may not hold the spotlight entirely at this point, but there's a consistent demand and response from fans. In the case of idols, fan enthusiasm that was once a concern is beginning to emerge. In the past, the emphasis was on the appearance and overall quality of virtual celebrities, but now, their storytelling through content and activities has become crucial. In this anticipated growth ahead, virtual celebrities are expected to offer a vibrant entertainment experience."
